The second of two issues that The Love Garden Project is trying to address is the issue of Food Sustainability. This is a very broad term, and often encompasses our entire planet. However, I would like to simply focus on our community here in the Chisago Lakes area. Yes, we have farms and gardens in our area, but the majority of the food on our tables is shipped here. Often, it comes from all over the world. This, again, affects the cost of the food. However, it also affects the environmental condition of our community. As more food is shipped here more pollution, through carbon emissions, is brought into our towns. We need to protect our lakes so that we can continue to enjoy them. We need to protect our fish so that we can continue to fish. We need to protect our woods so that we can continue to hike, bike, camp, ATV, and snowmobile. We need to protect our animals so that we can continue to enjoy seeing them and continue to feed our families through hunting.
A simple way to protect the environmental condition of our community is to create a more sustainable way to eat. We can cut down the cost of fresh fruit and vegetables by growing them in our backyard. We can cut down pollution in our area by growing fresh fruit and vegetables in our backyard. This is the aim of The Love Garden Project.
