One of the two issues that The Love Garden Project is
attempting to address is the issue of Community Health. The community that we are focusing on
is primarily the community of Chisago Lakes. As this community grows, it is our hope that The Love Garden
Project grows with it. We can all
eat healthy. Our children can eat
healthily, and it is our children that truly need, not only to eat healthy, but
also to have a deep appreciation for nutritious food.
It seems that food is becoming more and more processed; being filled with unhealthy preservatives and unnatural ingredients. Unfortunately, these processed foods taste very good, especially for children. I come across more and more children that will only eat frozen pizza and hot dogs. We all want our children to be happy, but we must also have an equal concern for their physical health. Research is finding that a leading cause of health problems in our children, such as obesity and diabetes, is the heavy consumption of these processed foods. Let us foster our children’s idea of “good” food as well as foster an awe-struck appreciation for our beautiful earth.
The second community that The Love Garden Project is targeting to improve health is the greater community of Minnesota containing low-income families. Many low-income people have no choice on what to eat. They have to eat what is cheapest. Unfortunately, unhealthy, processed food is what is cheap. This has a lasting affect on this low-income community. The image I would like to paint is that of a circle. A family is poor, so they can only afford unhealthy food. This unhealthy food does not contribute to their physical health. They become sick and now have additional medical bills to pay. This only increases their poverty. So now, they have even less money the next time they go to the grocery store. The Love Garden Project is attempting to step into this circle and end it’s vicious cycle. Please help us do this. All Minnesotans can eat healthy, and all Minnesotans can afford to eat healthy.
